The Illustrated Man
This is the portfolio site of Dorset tattoo artist Steve ‘A’. It features twenty-seven galleries of his selected works from the past five years.
The original version of the site was launched in 2000 when the business was named Varry’s Tattoo Studio. The studio was renamed The Illustrated Man late in 2004.
The site was redesigned early in 2005 using semantic XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS to take advantage of contemporary browser support for Web standards. It satisfies most WCAG priority 1, 2 & 3 checkpoints for accessibility.
Using Web standards to separate the presentation from the structure has reduced the file size from an average of 18 KB per page to 6 KB. Over the 320 pages this is a saving of 3.8 MB. This means the pages load quicker, the files take up less space on the server, and less bandwidth is used.
The above banner was designed to attract people to the site.
